My Story

Hi there! My name is Renya and you can use they and them pronouns when referring to me. I’m the radical therapist behind Come Together Counseling. Right now it’s just me, but that might change in the future.

How I Became A Therapist

I became a therapist sort of by accident. As an undergrad, I studied Advertising and Psychology. I thought I could work within the system ethically while flexing my creative muscles.

I very quickly discovered that I could not do that. Instead, I came to view the advertising field as manipulating us and stealing our time.

It was also around this time that I was developing a political analysis as a student activist. I was learning how messed up the world is, and I wanted to do what I could to make it a little bit better.

Not sure what to do next, I got sent an invitation to apply to a therapy program through an email list. Having always been curious about people, I thought, “what the hell?”

Since then, I’ve been in the process of getting to know myself more deeply and working through my own story. I’ve resolved to share what I’ve learned both through the avenues of providing therapy, and making content to share.

My Identities

Eugene Debs quote which reads, "Your honor, years ago I recognized my kinship with all living beings, and I made up my mind that I was not one bit better than the meanest on Earth. I said then, and I say now, that while there is a lower class, I am in it, and while there is a criminal element I am of it, and while there is a soul in prison, I am not free.
